Pingu是一只來自南極的年輕企鵝，它與它的母親、父親(當地的郵遞員)及年幼的妹妹Pinga一起生活。Pingu只是喜歡玩耍，它很淘氣，但心腸很好。如大多數的妹妹一樣，Pinga也從不會錯過取笑Pingu的機會。不過他們有時候仍然很喜歡相互玩耍。Robby這只海豹是Pingu最要好的朋友之一，不論它們是在一起釣魚或是玩捉迷藏，它們總要冒很大的險。 《企鵝家族》教給少年兒童們一些人生的必修課，每一集都在試圖向年輕的觀眾們強調相互合作的好處和良好行為的重要性，以及貪心、嘲弄和不守規矩所帶來的不良后果。這部動畫片已經相繼在全世界150多個國家播出，而這只名叫Pingu的卡通企鵝在許多國家被作為聯合國兒童基金會的形象大使。
